FIA Sports Management is pleased to announce that Alastair Bray has signed for A-League club Central Coast Mariners.
The shotstopper signs on for his first senior professional contract after stints with Melbourne Heart’s youth team and NPL club Bentleigh Greens.
The deal completes a standout year for Bray who lead the Greens to the NPL Victoria championship and earned a call up to the Australian U-23 National Team, the Olyroos in September.
Bray has been training with the Mariners’ for the past three weeks and is proud to have signed with the Yellow & Navy.
“It’s a great honour to play at a Club like this, they’ve obviously got a rich history and I’m really excited to get started,” Bray said.
“I’m really loving it here, I’m working hard every day at training to try and prove that I’m ready to go and hopefully I can get selected, I’m buzzing to get started.
“The first thing I noticed was that there’s a great bunch of lads here and they were really welcoming to me and ever since I arrived it’s been even better, there’s a really good culture here,” Bray said.
Head Coach Tony Walmsley was delighted to add two new talents to his squad and hinted that there could be more news on the transfer front during the January window.
“With Paul Izzo away we needed to add to our goalkeeper ranks and Alastair Bray has signed, a keeper with some great prospects,” Walmsley said.
An accomplished junior footballer, Bray was a graduate of the Victorian Institute of Sport and National Training Centre program.
A-League club Melbourne Heart soon came calling, signing Bray to a National Youth League deal ahead of the 2011-12 season.
Bray was named Heart’s NYL player of the year in 2013. After regularly training with the first team squad, Bray resisted interests from abroad in order to establish himself within the Australian set-up, returning to the Bentleigh Greens in the Victorian Premier League after his contract expired.
Two impressive seasons followed for the shot-stopper, leading the team to the Semi Finals in their dream FFA Cup run in 2014 and winning the NPL Victoria Championship in 2015.
