FIA Sports Management is pleased to announce the signing of Spanish forward Pablo Sanchez Alberto to Hyundai A-League club Adelaide United FC.
The 31-year-old, who last season played for Deportivo Lugo in the Spanish second division, has signed a one-year deal with Reds with an option for another.
Adelaide’s Head Coach Josep Gombau says Pablo Sanchez, who spent five years in La Liga with Seville and Las Palmas, is a perfect fit for his Reds.
“We need a player that can play in front and also defend, a player also with experience, because the age of our team is so young,” Gombau said.
“We are looking for this player that can play number nine, he can also play in the middle and the wing if required.”
Pablo Sanchez joins fellow Spaniards Gombau and teammates Isaias and Cirio on Adelaide’s books.
“We are trying to play the Spanish style,” Gombau said.
“Our club also wants to have this link with Spain, we want to build a relationship with Spain.”
Gombau also said that having played every league game for his previous club, Deportivo Lugo, last season, Sánchez is someone who is in very good physical condition.
Sánchez was introduced to his new teammates at his first training session at Coopers Stadium and said he has already been impressed by their abilities.
“I really like what I have seen so far and the style of football is very quick – just like the style of football I am used to from playing in Spain.”
Pablo Sanchez’s career began with hometown Cadiz CF, before spending four seasons from 2004 at Sevilla and another year at Las Palmas.
He spent three seasons with Recreativo de Huelva, returned to Cadiz CF again, before last season being the only player to feature in all 42 games of Segunda A for Deportivo Lugo.
