Federico Higuain (25 October 1984) is an Argentine attacking midfielder / forward who currently captains the Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer (MLS).
Higuain was born in Buenos Aires, the son of the Argentine former footballer Jorge Higuain and brother of Gonzalo Higuain who plays for Italian giants Napoli.
Higuain signed his youth career with River Plate, going on to make 5 appearances for the first team. He soon went on loan to Nueva Chicago in the second division, where he played 77 league games, scoring 29 goals.
In 2007, Higuain joined Turkish club Beşiktaş, making 18 appearances and scoring 2 goals before moving to Mexican giants Club América in 2008.
Higuain returned to Argentina for the next three seasons enjoying spells with Independiente, Godoy Cruz and Colón de Santa Fe.
Higuain signed for MLS club Columbus Crew on a record transfer fee for the club on 27 July 2012. Higuain finished his first season by scoring both goals of a 2-1 victory against Toronto FC on the final matchday, bringing his season tally to 5 goals and 7 assists.
To begin the 2013 season, Higuain scored the game-winning goal in the 51st minute of a 3–0 opening-day victory over Chivas USA.
On 10 August, Higuain scored in a 2–0 victory over New York Red Bulls with a chip from well outside the penalty area that was voted Goal of the Week, and in the next match, a 2–0 win over Toronto FC, he chipped the goalkeeper from 20 meters.
Higuain enjoyed a great year in 2013, scoring 11 goals and 9 assists from 29 matches.
